Awareness raising talks in Ayeyarwaddy Township

A team led by the commissioner/ secretary U Sit Myaing and comprising of commissioners U Khin Maung Lay and U Tin Myo as members, visited Pathein, Myaungmya, KyaungKone and Pantanaw Towships in Ayeyarwaddy Division and gave awareness raising talks on Human Rights and the functions of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission.

In every township visited by the commission, U Sit Myaing gave detailed explainations  on the salient aspects of Human Rights, while U Khin Maung Lay dwelled on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, its history and evolution and the (30) articles.

Commissioner U Tin Nyo explained about the establishment of the commission, its functions and mandates and the achievements of the commission during the years 2012 and 2013.

The Awareness raising talks held in Pathein Township on the 6th of January 2014 was attended by (305) persons, including members of the Parliament Departmental Officials, Political Parties, Civil Society Organizations and the local populace from all works of life. The Secretary responded to questions raised by the attendees and the talks came to a successful conclusion at 15:30 hrs.

Two hundred and forty six persons attended the talks held in Myaungmya on the 7th of January, while the talks held in Kyaunggon that same day attracted two hundred and six persons. The talk in Pantanaw held on the 8th of January was attended by two hundred and six two persons.

The Secretary and the members took turns to reply to queries raised in the townships.

The team arrived back in Yangon from Pantanaw on the evening of 8th January.

The awareness – raising talks created a lot of interest and the general feedback was that the town folks would welcome more talks of this kind in the future.

Talks on Human Rights


Talks on human rights were given by the Members of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission – U Nyunt Swe, Dr. Nyan Zaw and U Khuah Htiyo at Thaton, Mawlamyine and Kyaik Mayaw in Mon State and Hpa An in Kayin State on 8, 9 and 10 January 2014 respectively.

The Pyidaungsu and State Hulttaw Representatives, Government Officials, Members of the CSOs and local populace attended the talks which covered Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the role of National Human Rights Institutions and Complaint Handling Procedure of the Myanmar National Human Right Commission.

MNHRC holds educative talks about human rights

Members of Myanmar National Human Rights Commission disseminated knowledge about human rights, matters related to Universal Declaration of Human Rights and complaints at Zwegabin Hall in Hpa-an of Kayin State on 10 January morning.

Member of the Commission U Nyunt Swe gave talks on human rights, formation of National Human Rights Commission and its mission and vision.

Member of Dr. Nyan Zaw explained emergence of the Universal Declaration of  Human Rights, provisions and matters related to the charter.

Member of U Khwa Hti Yo discussed  complaints sent to the Commission and matters related to the action of the commission. The commission members replied to the queries raised by those present.

It was also attended by Kayin State Chief Minister U Zaw Win, Speaker of State Hluttaw U Saw Aung Kyaw Min, the chief  justice  of the State High Court, the deputy speaker, state ministers, the advocate- general of the state, the audiotor-general of the state, state Hluttaw MPs and department officials, local authorities and people.

Human Rights lectured at Falam Youth Conference

At the Falam Youth Conference held from 28 December 2013 to 2 January 2014 at Falam, Chin State, Myanmar, U Khuah Htiyo, Member of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission gave a lecture on human rights such as Universal Declaration of  Human Rights, International Human Rights Treaties and Myanmar National Human Rights Commission on 31 December 2013. Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Myanmar translated by Myanmar National Human Rights Commission and booklets published by Myanmar National Human Rights Commission were also distributed at the Conference. The Falam youth conference was attended by more than 300 representative of Falam Native Chin Youths.

Human Rights Awareness Activities in Mon State Hluttaw

On 31st December 2013, human rights awareness activities were conducted in the Mon State Hluttaw meeting hall. The event was led by Dr. Nyan Zaw, member of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission and was participated in by U Kyin Pe the Chairman of Mon State Hluttaw, Members of the Mon State Hluttaw Committees, Lecturers from the University of Mawlamyine and reporters.
