A team led by the commissioner/ secretary U Sit Myaing and comprising of commissioners U Khin Maung Lay and U Tin Myo as members, visited Pathein, Myaungmya, KyaungKone and Pantanaw Towships in Ayeyarwaddy Division and gave awareness raising talks on Human Rights and the functions of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission.
In every township visited by the commission, U Sit Myaing gave detailed explainations on the salient aspects of Human Rights, while U Khin Maung Lay dwelled on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, its history and evolution and the (30) articles.
Commissioner U Tin Nyo explained about the establishment of the commission, its functions and mandates and the achievements of the commission during the years 2012 and 2013.
The Awareness raising talks held in Pathein Township on the 6th of January 2014 was attended by (305) persons, including members of the Parliament Departmental Officials, Political Parties, Civil Society Organizations and the local populace from all works of life. The Secretary responded to questions raised by the attendees and the talks came to a successful conclusion at 15:30 hrs.
Two hundred and forty six persons attended the talks held in Myaungmya on the 7th of January, while the talks held in Kyaunggon that same day attracted two hundred and six persons. The talk in Pantanaw held on the 8th of January was attended by two hundred and six two persons.
The Secretary and the members took turns to reply to queries raised in the townships.
The team arrived back in Yangon from Pantanaw on the evening of 8th January.
The awareness – raising talks created a lot of interest and the general feedback was that the town folks would welcome more talks of this kind in the future.
