South East Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum Technical Working Group Meeting (TWG 1/2016)

             Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) the Chair of South East Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum, for 2016, a forum consisting of the National Human Rights Institution of Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Timor-leste hosted a Technical Working Group Meeting (TWG 1/2016) at the Commission’s premises from 27-28 January 2016. The meeting was attended by members of SEANF. The Provedorpia of Timor-leste, however, was unable to attend the meeting.

          The opening ceremony was addressed by U Win Mra the Chair of Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC). In his opening address the Chair stated that the meeting is held to deliberate on the follow-up activities relating to the decisions of 12th SEANF Annual Meeting in Putra Jaya, Malaysia and to discuss other relevant human rights issues of common concern.

          A photo session followed the opening ceremony after which the meeting adjourned for a tea break.

          After tea break the delegates from the Indonesian National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) presented an update of SEANF Permanent Secretariat and Initial Work on the drafting of the SEANF Strategic Plan 2017-2022, which was followed by further inputs from SEANF members. The meeting then adjourned for lunch.

          After lunch SEANF’s role in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and on The Rights of older persons were discussed by SEANF members.

          The meeting came to a close at 16:00 hours.

         The delegates then paid a visit to Shwe Dagon Pagoda after which they attended a welcoming dinner hosted by the Chairman of MNHRC at Karaweik Hotel, Kandawgyi.

          The Technical Working Group Meeting will continue tomorrow, the 28 of January at 09:30 hours.
