The First South-South Human Rights Forum (SSHRF) was held in Beijing, the People’s Republic of China from 7 December to 8 December 2017. U Sit Myaing, Vice-Chairperson and U Soe Phone Myint, member of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission attended the SSHRF.
The SSHRF was jointly sponsored by the Information Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China where 300 representatives from 70 countries and international organizations including the United Nations Human Rights Council participated in the Forum.
In the Forum, presentations were made on Realization of Inclusive Development and Human Rights under South-South Cooperation, Promoting Protection and Development of Fundamental Human Rights, China and South-South Cooperation- Important Role in Promoting Human Rights Development in the World, Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind to Drive New Progress in the Global Governance of Human Rights, promoting human rights cooperation, etc. U Sit Myaing, Vice-Chairperson of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission made the presentation under the topic “Inclusive Development and Realization of South-South Human Rights”, discussing on the human rights promotion and protection activities carried out by the Commission in accordance with the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Law, and recommendations made by the Commission in respect of international human rights instruments to which Myanmar should become a party.
The Beijing Declaration was adopted by consensus on the final day at the First South-South Human Rights Forum.
